While you plan

Pick a plant. Its good and bad neighbours light up.

In the Garden Designer, you don’t have to look anything up. Pick a plant and the plants already in your bed show you what they think of it.

  • Green outline with ✓ — a good neighbour.
  • Amber ✕ — better kept apart.
  • The plant list carries the same ✓ and ✕, so you can see the best choices before you even pick.

The list compares every plant with what’s already in the bed. Beans get ✕ here because there’s onion in it.

Always a reason

Not just “yes” or “no” — the reason why.

Every plant in the Plant Library has a Companions tab: who it likes, who it doesn’t, and one short line saying why.

“Marigold — repels nematodes and aphids.” “Potato — share blight and pest problems.” Easy to remember, easy to act on.

Sharing a pot

Two plants, one pot? It checks first.

Sharing soil is harder than sharing a bed. So when you add a second plant to a pot, EdenVatika checks two things: do they get along, and do they want the same watering?

If not, it asks you to check this pairing. Know better? Tap Add anyway.

  • Big plants like tomatoes and squash can share a pot only with herbs.
  • A dry-soil herb and a thirsty one get flagged — one pot can only be watered one way.

Check this pairing

Rosemary wants dry soil and Basil wants steady moisture — one pot can only be watered one way. Add it anyway?

Fennel and Pepper shouldn’t share soil — they compete in the same pot. Add it anyway?

⚠️Tomato needs the root space — only herbs can share with it

Clash alertPro

Planted two enemies too close? You’ll know straight away.

With Pro, EdenVatika watches the whole bed. If two plants that don’t get along end up within about 4 feet of each other, both get a red outline and a banner says exactly why.

Move one far enough away and the alert clears on its own. Planted far apart? No alert — distance is part of the rule.

Guide

Plant Pairing, how do I…?

Short answers. Tap a question.

How do I see a plant’s good and bad neighbours? +
Open the plant in the Plant Library and tap the Companions tab. You’ll see Good Companions in green and Avoid Planting With in red — each with a one-line reason.
How do I check while I’m planting a bed? +
In the Garden Designer, pick a plant from the list. Plants already in the bed light up: a green outline with ✓ means good neighbour, an amber ✕ means keep apart.
What do the ✓ and ✕ in the plant list mean? +
They compare each plant with what’s already in your bed. ✓ means it would get along with them; ✕ means one of your plants doesn’t like it.
What does “Check this pairing” mean? +
You’re adding a second plant to a pot, and the two shouldn’t share soil — or one wants dry soil and the other wet. You can still tap Add anyway if you know better.
Why can’t I put lettuce in the pot with my tomato? +
Big plants like tomatoes and squash need a whole pot’s root space. They can share only with herbs — a tomato with basil is fine, a tomato with lettuce isn’t.
Does it matter how far apart they are? Pro +
Yes. The clash alert only fires when two plants that don’t get along are within about 4 squares (4 feet) of each other — or in the next row or one over in a row garden. Far apart is fine.
How do I get the red clash alert? Pro +
It’s automatic with Pro. When two clashing plants are close, both get a red outline and a banner at the top explains why. Move one and the alert clears.
Can the AI plan around good neighbours? Pro +
Yes. In the AI Garden Planner, pick Companion Focused and it fills the bed with as many good pairs as it can.

FAQ

Questions, answered

What is companion planting?
Growing plants next to neighbours that help them — by keeping pests away, bringing in helpful insects, or sharing space well — and away from ones that hold them back. Basil next to tomatoes is the classic example.
Where do the pairings come from?
EdenVatika has a built-in list of over 900 good pairings and 250+ to avoid, covering the plants in its library. Each one comes with a short reason, like “Repels nematodes and aphids”.
What if two plants have no pairing?
Then they’re neutral — they don’t help or hurt each other. Most plants are neutral with most others, and that’s fine.
What if my plant is “good” with one neighbour and “bad” with another?
The warning wins. If any plant in your bed doesn’t get along with it, you see ✕ — so a good neighbour never hides a bad one.
Is plant pairing free?
Yes — the Companions tab, the ✓ / ✕ hints while you plant, and the pot checks are all free. Pro adds the red clash alert for plants that ended up too close, and the AI planner’s Companion Focused mode.
